What is your favorite thing about your hair?

I love its wild energy - it has a mind all of its own and I don’t have to do a thing to make it that way. It’s a wash and go kind of curl life for me, which leaves me to focus on my life with easy breezy, great hair!

And your least favorite?

It has a mind of its own ;) You never know what you’re going to get. It’s fine, but I have a lot of it, which leaves it vulnerable to breakage with my active lifestyle.

How has your hair evolved?

I’ve finally learned to love my natural curly texture and the fact that I’m a brunette through and through. We always want what we don’t have and, for me, that was straight, long, shiny, and smooth hair. I think once we grow into our personality and grow up, a fierce hair acceptance isn’t far behind that.

Do you recall ever being envious of someone else’s hair or comparing your hair to that of a friend/peer/celebrity?

All of the time! I think appreciating others’ beauty is a benchmark of a well evolved person. I used to wear wigs during my Broadway career and it allowed me to slip into the hair I’ve always dreamt about. Crushes are the best, in love and in hair, and just like romantic crushes - hair crushes fade and change. As long as you learn that crushing on yourself is the most important crush of all!

Are there any specific hair “phases” that stand out in your memory?

Oh boy! The time I cut my own bangs, WET, and was left with stubble on the front of my head just in time for 4th grade photo day! The time my mom picked me up from the salon in 10th grade and I had decided to dye my hair what could only be described as the color of an eggplant. When I chopped it all off and dyed it black sophomore year of college, forgetting that my hair was curly and would look like a giant Q-Tip when all was said and done rather than the New York power woman I was hoping for!

Do you have any hair regrets?

If we don’t experiment and make mistakes, in life as it is in hair, we never grow. Luckily for me, hair grows back!

How has time/maturity impacted the way you feel about your hair now and how does that relate to your overall self-worth and self-esteem?

Radical self-acceptance is the name of the game, hair included. Once we see our natural born beauty and accept ourselves for all of our wild nature, we are able to love ourselves wholly and completely. I must say, once I let my hair live its best authentic life, it has never looked better. With the help of EVOLVh, of course!

Tell us about your experience taking part in this shoot/campaign! Were you nervous? Was it what you expected?

It was incredible to witness women of all ages, hair types, and personalities coming together to talk about what makes them THEM. Such an inspiring day all around!
